Parenting and Career
Is there a perfect balanced between the two?
I personally don’t think there is. Some days you will be able to do 50/50 and there would be other occasions that mom life will require more time. Such as when your kids get sick. But it is possible to manage both. I strongly believe society puts a lot of pressure on woman and mothers to “do it all” but it doesn’t have to be that way. You might feel a tremendous pressure to be successful at your career and motherhood, this can sometimes bring a feeling of chaos, I know it does for me.
When this feeling comes to mind, I always stop and look around and realize that I am not the only one going through this. There are many successful business owners, doctors and many other women that are working and trying to find a balanced between being a mom and a career woman. So don’t feel that you are in this alone.
Try to set a schedule at the beginning of the month. I am sure you heard this one plenty of times, but what helps me is to plan. The first thing that goes on that calendar are the kids’ activities, appointments and don’t forget some time for yourself. Then plan everything else around it. Knowing when you need to take time off or leave early from work can help relief some stress. Planning for the month can also help you identify if you will need help in some of these areas.
Ask for help. Maybe your partner and/or a family member can assist you.
Remember you don’t have to do it all.
If you work from home, then hire someone for a few hours to help you with the kids and you can concentrate 100% on work for a few hours. Hire a cleaning person – Hiring help to clean the house can be such a big relief. It will clear some time from your schedule during the weekends. If hiring someone is not part of your budget, then break down the house chores throughout the week and between your family. Leave the weekend for family time.
The best tip I can give you is to take care of yourself. Remember you need to be okay to be in the best shape to help others. De-stress before you pick up the kids or before you get home. Get your favorite coffee/tea and enjoy it while having a few minutes of quiet time, listen to your favorite podcast. My favorite one is Wander Souls Podcast.
Finally, surround yourself with like minded individuals. This could be your friends or even coworkers. Women that are facing the same situation that you are in. I have friends that have helped me through a lot of moments of motherhood, the good ones, and the bad ones.
